Bluesky has no algorithm, so follower rates finally work

Bluesky's default Following feed is chronological, which makes it the one platform on this list where interactions divided by followers measures the thing the formula claims to measure. Your followers saw the post, or would have if they were online, so the rate reflects how your own audience responded rather than how an algorithm decided to distribute it.

Rates therefore read higher than on the algorithmic platforms, and they respond to posting time more sharply. A chronological feed means a post published while your audience is asleep is genuinely gone rather than delayed, so consistent timing does more for a Bluesky account than it does anywhere else.

Custom feeds are the complication. Many people browse Bluesky through topic feeds rather than Following, so a post picked up by a popular custom feed reaches far beyond your followers and produces a rate above 100%. That is not an error in the calculation. It means the post escaped your follower graph, which is worth noting separately rather than averaging into your baseline.

Replies and quotes carry the most weight in practice, as they do on X, and reposts spread a post through the chronological feeds of other people's followers. Because there is no ranking system deciding what deserves a second look, spread on Bluesky depends almost entirely on someone choosing to repost, which makes the repost count the number to watch.
