Pinterest is a search engine that happens to look like a feed, and its text fields are indexed accordingly. Pin titles cap at 100 characters and pin descriptions at 500. The counter measures against the 100-character title limit, because the title is the field doing most of the work in deciding whether a pin surfaces at all.

In the grid, only about 60 characters of the title stay visible before Pinterest trims it. That is the real constraint. Lead with the specific phrase someone would actually search, such as the dish, the room, or the technique, and put the qualifiers after it where truncation costs you nothing.

Descriptions are not visible in the grid, so their job is entirely search and the person who has already tapped through. Full sentences describing what the pin shows and who it is for do that job. Keyword stuffing reads badly to the human who clicked and does not buy the ranking it looks like it should.

Pinterest accepts up to 20 hashtags on a pin, but they behave like weak keywords rather than the discovery channel they are on Instagram, so around five specific tags is plenty. Profile descriptions cap at 160 characters and are also indexed, which makes them worth writing as a keyword-aware description of who you create for rather than as a tagline.
